In 1999, a few years after the Unocal moved their headquarters, the complex was converted into a movie studio with the construction of 6 sound stages. The main office tower and surrounding streets have been repurposed as a permanent filming location with dressed sets including offices, a police station, hospital, morgue, elevators in several different styles, a parking garage, and more.

The distinctive googie-style Theme Building in the center of the terminal complex was designed in 1961 by architect Paul Williams. The arched structure contains a panoramic retro-futuristic restaurant with views of the airport.
