The series "How I Met Your Mother" was filmed in Los Angeles and New York, USA. The peculiarity of sitcoms is that they are usually filmed in the same locations, which are much easier to build on the studio and adapt to the plot, than to rent real places. The series is no exception - the apartments of Ted, Lily, Barney, the Bar where the friends meet are all sets built on the studio, as well as some of the New York streets. Exceptions are some scenes at the university, on the beaches and streets of New York - if it is a "one-off" scene, it is easier to shoot it on location.
