The building has been in control of the Public Health Services Authority since 2014 after the RCMP moved to their new Surrey headquarters and has been popular with film productions since then.

The building became vacant after the RCMP moved to their new headquarters in Surrey which was completed at the end of 2012. In 2014 the building transferred to the Public Health Services Authority which has rented it out to film productions.

Featuring postmodern architecture, the entire building was designed to look like a book lying open. The original intention was to expand the library backwards, but development plans changed and now the building ends in a plain stucco wall, in contrast with the distinct glass facade on the front.
