Construction on the station began in 1914 just to the east of the old station, but while the building was completed in 1920, trains didn't start running through it until 1927 due to a dispute over the tracks. The building was recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1975 and inducted into the Railway Hall of Fame in 1999. The station currently operates Via Rail, Amtrak, and GO Transit trains, as well as the dedicated Union Pearson Express to the airport and subway trains through the station under Front Street.

Scene was shot The Place Street School opened in 1859 designed by architect Joseph Sheard to teach about 180 students. The building was sold after the school's closure in 1887 and became a hotel that went by several names including Irvine House, Cherry Street Hotel, and Eastern Star Hotel. When these various hotels failed the building stood vacant from 1910–22 when it was converted for industrial uses.The Canary Restaurant began operation on the ground floor of the building in 1965 and retained its 60s-era decor until its closure in 2007 due to a drop in traffic caused by development in the area.

Scene was shot Liberty Grand was constructed in 1926 to house exhibit space for the Ontario government during the annual Canadian National Exhibition. It was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by firm Chapman and Oxley with an ornate exterior but a fairly plain interior. In 1971 the new Ontario Place took over the role that the building held and it remained vacant until 2001 when it was leased to the Liberty Entertainment Group who renovated the facility as an events space.
