Where was Ali filmed

Ali

Year: 2001

Genre: Drama

Country: Ghana, Mozambique, USA

This 2001 American sports biopic was co-written by Michael Mann, who also produced and directed it. The film traces ten years in the life of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, from his victory over Sonny Liston in 1964 to his triumph over George Foreman in the "Rumble in the Jungle" fight in 1974. The lead role was played by Will Smith, who spent a year researching Ali's life, undergoing intensive boxing training, studying Islam and learning a specific dialect. Smith has said that his portrayal of Ali is one of his proudest works. A realistic approach was taken to the fight scenes: instead of traditional "Hollywood fights" involving stunts and special effects, real boxers were used on set. Work on the scenes was closely linked to boxing promoter Guy Sharp and his boxer Ross Kent. All the boxers in the film are former or current world heavyweight champions. The film was shot in several cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Miami. Scenes were also shot in Mozambique and Ali's hometown of Lewisville, Kentucky. One of the film's most important locations is Ghana, where several key scenes reflecting Ali's history and culture were shot.
