Scene was shot Baler is located 231 kilometres (144 mi) north-east of Manila. It is the capital of the province of Aurora, Philippines. In 1609, seven Franciscan missionaries, led by Fray Blas Palomino, founded the settlement of Baler. After filming the beach scenes of Apocalypse Now, the production crew left the surfboards behind for the local residents to use. That inspired the local residents. Today, Baler is one of the oldest surf communities in the country. The place thanks its nickname to a th quote from the movie: ‘Charlie, don’t surf there.’
