<p>Principal photography on the iconic film began in April 2007 in Los Angeles and Wellington. James Cameron conceived of the movie as a unique combination of live actors and computer graphics, aiming to create a world in which viewers would be unable to distinguish between reality and digital elements. Even before principal photography began, he spent four months honing minor scenes to maximize visual verisimilitude. An advanced 3D Fusion Camera System, fine-tuned by Cameron himself and Vince Pace, was used for filming. As a result, about 60% of the movie is made up of computer effects, and the remaining 40% is the shooting of live actors and miniature sets. Filming took place at Hughes Aircraft Studios in Playa Vista (Los Angeles) and Stone Street Studios (Wellington). More than a thousand professionals worked on the film, and the actors underwent intensive training, including archery, horseback riding, hand-to-hand combat and learning the Na'vi language specially developed for the movie. To get a deeper sense of the uncharted world, Cameron sent the actors to the rainforests of Hawaii, where they studied nature and immersed themselves in the atmosphere that would later be recreated on screen. Pandora's spectacular landscapes were inspired by real locations around the world. These include the majestic cliffs of China's Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and the picturesque coastline of Hawaii's Big Island, which gave the movie its unique visual style.</p>
