Where was Bastards filmed

Svolochi

Year: 2006

Genre: Action, Drama

Country: Armenia, Russia

The movie script is based on Kunin's story “No Love, No Longing, No Pity”. The story is about a group of teenagers who become criminals and end up in prison cells. They are taken out of prison and sent to a secret training camp in the mountains, where it is planned to make them saboteurs-parachutists, capable of operating behind enemy lines. Shooting of the movie began in 2006 and mainly took place in Armenia, on the slopes and summit of Mount Aragats. The film team worked in winter conditions, which gave the movie an additional atmosphere of cruelty and harshness, because the cold and windy peaks that the heroes faced became a real test not only for the characters, but also for the actors.

Locations

  • Camp

    In movie

Scene where things didn't go according to plan on the first day - teenagers got into a violent fight over access to hot water. One of them ended up getting knocked out. Of course, the disgruntled camp manager came out to address the situation.

    Real

Scene was shot in a camp on the top of Mount Aragats. The filming took place in conditions of extreme nature - rocky slopes, snowy areas and precipices. The camp built on this location looks very down-to-earth: wooden buildings, barracks, surrounded by a metal fence with barbed wire. This choice of location made the shooting visually expressive and emphasized the harsh living and training conditions of the teenagers.

  • The road to camp

    In movie

Scene where A sabotage group consisting of 14-15-year-olds arrives at the camp in a service truck. Their training will take place at a closed base in the mountains of Kazakhstan, and their trainers will be former prisoners released specifically for this task on Vishnevetsky's instructions.

    Real

Scene was shot at the foot of Mount Aragats, the highest peak in Armenia, located in the western part of the country. This volcanic massif consists of four peaks, each of which is a separate peak, and reaches a height of 4090 meters above sea level. Mount Aragats is often a filming location due to its remoteness and seclusion, which helps to create an effect of isolation.

  • Underground warehouse

    In movie

Scene where A sabotage team is sent to the Carpathian Mountains to destroy an enemy rock canopy at the entrance to a strategically important underground warehouse. The main part of the group is dropped directly over the German base, where they come under heavy fire from anti-aircraft machine guns, and almost all of the saboteurs are killed. Only a few manage to survive - two of them, guys nicknamed Cat and Tyapa. Then they manage to sneak into the base and destroy it by blowing up key facilities.

    Real

Scene was shot in the vicinity of Lake Sevan. It is a high mountain lake in Armenia at an altitude of 1,900 meters above sea level and one of the largest lakes in the world. It occupies an area of about 1,240 square kilometers. The lake is surrounded by mountain ranges, with high rocky peaks that form natural barriers on the northern, western and southern sides.
