The movie is based on Arkady Gaidar's book “Chuk and Gek”. In the story, two boys together with their mother go to the taiga to their geologist father to celebrate the New Year as a family. For the main characters this trip turns into a real adventure. Filming of the picture took place in February 2021 in the Perm region, namely, in the village of Ust-Koiva, on the Shumikha rocks and in the vicinity of Gubakha. Alexander Kott, the director of the movie, says that he was bribed by the local “crystal forests”: “The temperature - minus 40, fir trees covered with caps of snow. And then the next day there is a thaw, raindrops wash away the snow, and then freeze - you get ringing trees”.

The decorations of the geological station organically blended into the natural landscape. Subsequently, the buildings were dismantled to preserve the pristine appearance of the mountains.

Ust-Koiva is a small village nestled among the hills and dense forests of the Perm region. The nearby Chusovaya River is one of the most famous rivers of the Urals. It is famous for its steep banks, high cliffs and winding bends.
