Scene was shot Mount Etna is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, in the Metropolitan City of Catania, between the cities of Messina and Catania. It lies above the convergent plate margin between the African Plate and the Eurasian Plate. It is one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe. It is one of the most important palaces of the city, rebuilt in neoclassical style in the late eighteenth century for the family Di Lorenzo, the Marquis of Castelluccio. Following the 1693 earthquake, the city of Noto was entirely rebuilt in Sicilian Baroque style. In 2002, its historic centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It has long been the main place of worship in the city of Scicli. The present church is the result of an eighteenth-century reconstruction following the Val di Noto earthquake of 1693. In the 1990s it was restored, with the construction of a vaulted reinforced concrete roof.
