Where was Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn filmed
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
Year: 1987
Genre: Action
Country: Afghanistan
Film was filmed primarily in North Carolina, using small-town locations in Wadesboro and Lilesville as stand-ins for the remote wilderness settings the story demands. The production built elaborate interior sets for the cabin, cellar, and work shed inside a gymnasium at a former junior high school in Wadesboro, while exterior cabin and shed structures were constructed on private property — the same land previously used for portions of Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple in 1985. The iconic opening sequence was shot at the Fryingpan Tunnel along the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 275-foot tunnel built in 1930 at over 4,800 feet elevation. Bruce Campbell returned as Ash Williams, and Ted Raimi (the director's younger brother) played Henrietta in a full body latex suit that collected so much sweat it would pour onto the floor when removed. The score was composed by Joseph LoDuca. The film has become a cult classic that blends horror with slapstick comedy in a way that was groundbreaking for the genre.
