The main filming took place in Malta, the same location as the first part. It was there that key scenes in the Colosseum and the road along which the troops marched to liberate Rome were recreated.
The large-scale battle scenes were filmed in Morocco and England on specially constructed sets.
For the water scenes, large pools were built, and the scene of the Colosseum flooding was partially filmed at the Malta Film Studio, home to one of the largest water tanks in the world.

In addition, a part of the Colosseum was carefully recreated for the filming of key battles.
