Scene was shot On Skoolhouse Beach in northern California, about 25 miles west of Santa Rosa. The beach is easy to find near the Coastal Highway. It is referred to as Dawson's Beach in the movie as a reference to Dawson's Creek, which was also created by screenwriter Kevin Williamson.

With his head out of the sunroof, hooting and hollering, Barry takes a sip from the bottle, oblivious to the fact that they are approaching a winding part of the highway. Barry drops the bottle into the car, and Ray is distracted by what's happening. “Look out!” - yells Barry from the roof, just before the car crashes into a mysterious figure on the road.
