Where was It Takes Two filmed

It Takes Two

Year: 1995

Genre: Comedy, Drama

Country: USA

Filming took place in the United States and Canada, but was mostly done in and around Toronto. One of the key filming locations was a children's camp located in Muskoka, Ontario, which is still in operation today. The picturesque region is known for its lakes and forests, which was perfect for creating the atmosphere of the summer camp where the main characters meet. The Calloway mansion is actually located in the upscale neighborhood of The Bridle Path in North York, Ontario. The second part of filming took place in New York City, where several urban and iconic tourist locations were utilized. Mott Street in Chinatown was used to shoot the shelter scenes. The climactic wedding scene was filmed at the historic St. Bartholomew's Church, and the final meeting of the characters after the wedding at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park.

Scene where Amanda plays baseball with the other kids and then leaves to meet a family who wants to adopt her. Amanda lives in an orphanage in New York City and dreams of a loving family and a room of her own. She is an orphan and really wants to be adopted by the orphanage's caretaker, Diana, whom the girl treats like a mom. Diana loves the girl as her own, but she can't take her, as she doesn't have a husband and sufficient finances. At the beginning of the movie Amanda wanted to be adopted: the orphanage discusses the possibility of her adoption by the Batkis family, known for their "collection" of children, i.e. they take everyone. However, Amanda dreams of becoming a family with Diana.

    Real

Scene was shot across the street and in the Fourteenth Ward Industrial School building. The school was built in 1888-1889 for the Children's Aid Society. This building is notable for its historical association with the Children's Aid Society, an organization that was dedicated to helping children in need. The choice of this building as the location for the orphanage is likely due to its architecture and historical context, consistent with the theme of orphanage and child care.

Scene where Roger and Clarissa's wedding takes place. The wedding of Alyssa's father, Roger, to the self-serving Clarissa becomes the climax of the movie. Twins Amanda and Alyssa do their best to disrupt the event, as they realize that Clarissa is only interested in Roger's money and does not truly love him. Amanda, pretending to be Alyssa, tries to delay the ceremony in various ways until the real Alyssa makes it to the church with Diana. At the most tense moment, Diana brings the real Alyssa, and Roger finally realizes something is wrong. He realizes his feelings for Diana and calls off the wedding to Clarissa right before the altar.

    Real

Scene was shot at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City. This historic Anglican church is known for its Neo-Romantic architecture. The building was designed and built in 1918 and is famous for its mosaics and stained glass windows. The authors of the movie chose this location for the wedding scene because of its majestic view and elegant atmosphere, which were perfect for creating a grand wedding ceremony of a very rich man. Plus, its location in the heart of New York City made it convenient for filming and added a recognizable cityscape to the film.

  • The place where Alyssa and Diana get into the carriage.

    In movie

Scene where Diana and Alyssa rush to Roger and Clarissa's wedding to stop the ceremony. After learning the truth about the girls' switch and Clarissa's true intentions, Diana goes to the church with the real Alyssa to uncover the deception and prevent the marriage. The girl offers to steal a carriage with horses, and Diana, out of desperation and haste, agrees. The horses are driven by Alyssa in doing so. Their arrival at the wedding becomes the climax of the movie: Roger learns the truth about the twins and tells his feelings to Diana, who feels the same as he does.

    Real

Scene was shot Bethesda Terrace, located in Central Park in Manhattan. It is one of the park's most iconic architectural structures and is renowned for its scenic views and rich history. The Terrace consists of two levels connected by grand staircases and offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape. At the center of the terrace is the famous fountain with a bronze statue of the Angel of Waters. The Bethesda Terrace arcade is known for its ceiling decorated with nearly 16,000 Minton tiles. The filmmakers chose this place as a location probably because of its beauty, architectural significance, and central location. In the story, the wedding takes place at the Bartholomew Church in Manhattan, and in order to be on time for it, the heroines had to be nearby as well. The use of this location in the movie emphasizes the significance of the events taking place and also adds to the visual score of the movie.
