Scene was shot at Manitoba's Bar in Manhattan. This place was a famous rock and roll bar founded in 1999 by Richard “Handsome Dick” Manitoba, frontman of the band The Dictators. The bar was known for its punk atmosphere and became a popular spot for those who wanted to dive into the rock atmosphere. The choice of Manitoba's Bar as a location for the movie was probably intended to bring an authentic New York atmosphere to the movie, and given Simon's unconventional nature and propensity for egregiousness, the choice of such a place for the first meeting with Caroline seems quite logical. Manitoba's Bar closed in June 2019 after 20 years of operation due to financial difficulties. A cute coffee shop opened in its place.
