    In movie

Scene where Madison visits Bloomingdale's luxury department store. Allan is forced to leave the mermaid alone in the hotel. Sitting alone, she turns on the television and sees beautiful women in stylish clothes that are much cuter than the one she is wearing. Immediately, an advertisement for Bloomingdale's department store appears on the screen and Madison decides to go there to purchase these beautiful clothes. At Bloomingdale's, Madison's eyes are blown away by the variety of merchandise. She first goes into the women's clothing boutique where she is helped to choose a few outfits, after which she accidentally ends up in the electronics department. She is amazed by human technology, and her attention is drawn to a fitness program being broadcast on the television screens. Madison spends more than six hours near them, which attracts the attention of the store staff. That's when Allan comes running to her to take her back to the hotel.

    Real

Scene was shot at the famous Bloomingdale's department store. Bloomingdale's Department Store is one of the most famous and historic shopping centers in the United States. It was founded by brothers Joseph and Lyman Bloomingdale in 1861, and in 1872 they opened a flagship store on 3rd Avenue, which appeared in this and many other movies. Bloomingdale's was the first store to offer customers a variety of goods under one roof, a revolutionary idea for American commerce at the time. Over time, the department store became a symbol of luxury and fashion, attracting shoppers from all over the world. It is logical that Madison went to this store: Bloomingdale's was one of the most popular department stores of the time, and was often advertised on television. Plus, the location perfectly captures the contrast between the mermaid's underwater world and city life, making the scene especially memorable and visually appealing.

  • Freedom Island

    In movie

The movie begins with a childhood memory of Allan Bauer accidentally falling into the water off Cape Cod. In the water, he is rescued by a young mermaid who is unnoticed by his parents. The mermaid, unnoticed by anyone but Allan, prevents him from drowning and helps him get to the surface. Many years later, Allan, having never learned to swim, falls into the water again and faints, and the same mermaid saves his life again. Wanting to find Allan, the mermaid Madison comes to land right under the Statue of Liberty. The naked girl is arrested and after discovering she has a wallet in Bauer's name, she is sent to him.

    Real

Scene was shot on Liberty Island in New York City, home to the Statue of Liberty. This famous landmark is a symbol of the United States and New York City, and the embodiment of freedom and democracy. It is located three kilometers from the southern tip of Manhattan. The location is perfect for the beginning of the story for several reasons. The location symbolizes freedom and new life, which fits perfectly with the context of the story, in which Madison, a mermaid, naked and without belongings, leaves her underwater world and comes to land to start a new life in the city with Alan. Also, Liberty Island is surrounded by water on all sides, making it a logical place for the mermaid to swim to in the first place.

    In movie

Scene where Allan, his brother Freddy and Dr. Walter Kornblatt rescue Madison the mermaid from her imprisonment. Kornblatt douses Madison with water at a party, causing her to grow a mermaid's tail, and she is taken to a research laboratory at the American Museum of Natural History. Seeing this, Dr. Kornblatt repents for his act and joins Allan and Freddy to save Madison.

    Real

Scene was shot at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. It is one of the largest and most famous natural history museums in the world, founded in 1869, and includes more than 32 million artifacts, including sea creatures. The movie shows the Ocean Life exhibit hall with a huge statue of a blue whale, featuring a variety of sea creatures. Once past it, the characters make their way to the museum's research facilities. This museum fits perfectly into the plot of the movie because it corresponds to it: all information on sea creatures of the past and present is collected here, and this is the place where scientists could study the mermaid. In addition, the impressive architecture and extensive expositions create an atmosphere of scientific importance, which also corresponds to the plot of the film.
