<p>Alejandro González Iñárritu won the Academy Award for Best Director for Survivor, and Emmanuel Lubecki was honored for Best Cinematography. From the beginning, Iñárritu firmly adhered to the idea that the movie should be as realistic as possible, so the shooting took place not in a pavilion in front of a green screen, but on the ground, in the wilderness. Most of the scenes were shot in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada, a picturesque mountainous area west of Calgary. Its rugged, majestic scenery perfectly captured the atmosphere of the movie. However, some scenes were shot in other locations. For example, the scene of a bear attack on Leonardo DiCaprio's character was filmed in British Columbia, and a dramatic scene with a rushing stream was shot at the Kootenay Falls in Montana. When the snow unexpectedly melted in Alberta, the final fight had to be filmed in Argentina, near Ushuaia, the southernmost city in South America.</p>

Surrounded by majestic mountain scenery and dense forests, this location perfectly captures the rugged and untouched nature shown in the movie. This scene required many rehearsals to ensure that the carefully directed chaos was perfectly captured on screen.
