Weekend at Bernie's

Year: 1989

Genre: Comedy, Crime

Country: USA

Film was filmed in New York City and tells the story of two low-level insurance company employees, Richard and Larry, who discover a massive fraud at their company. When they report it to their boss Bernie Lomax, he invites them to his luxurious beach house for the weekend — but secretly plans to have them killed to cover up the scheme. Things go sideways when Bernie himself ends up dead before the hitman can get to the two guys. Rather than calling the police and ruining their weekend, Richard and Larry decide to pretend Bernie is still alive, propping him up in sunglasses and dragging him around the party scene. The result is a dark comedy full of physical gags, absurd situations, and a surprising amount of charm considering the premise revolves around a corpse. The film became a cult classic of late 1980s comedy and even spawned a sequel in 1993.
