<p>The famous 1991 comedy starring Bill Murray was filmed for the most part in the picturesque town of Moneta, Virginia, located on the shores of Smith Mountain Lake. Although the movie is set in the fictional town of Lake Winnipesaukee, it was actually filmed in Virginia from late August through November. Smith Mountain Lake, a 40-mile-long man-made lake formed by a dam on the Roanoke River, was the backdrop for much of the movie's action. One of the most memorable scenes, where Bob accidentally blows up a house, was filmed using a 3/4-size replica model of a real house that had been blown up on a neighboring property. Other famous filming locations include the Elks National Home nursing home, used in the movie to create the image of the institution, and the First Christian Church of North Hollywood, where the wedding scene was filmed.</p>

Scene was shot at the Elks National Home. It is a nursing home with a rich history, founded by the Benevolent and Protective Order back in 1916. The neighborhood of the complex includes three sites and 23 historic buildings. Today, the site continues to retain its function as part of Bedford's heritage.
