Scene was shot Originally the square was occupied by several houses, chapels and the Archbishop’s Palace. The Palace was destroyed in 1831 by rioters. In 1843, the site was opened as a formal garden. At that time it was the first public district garden in Paris. The Virgin Fountain - which was build in the neo-Gothic style - was designed in 1845 by architect Alphonse Vigoureux and sculptor Merlieux. Following a serious fire on April 15, 2019 at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Square Jean XXIII is closed until further notice.
