Wilton House - The Palladian bridge

In movie

Scene where Mr. Elton passes the bridge.

Real

Scene was shot The design of the Palladian Bridge over the little River Nadder at Wilton House was inspired by Andrea Palladio's rejected design for the Rialto Bridge in Venice (inter alia), adapted and supervised by Henry 9th Earl of Pembroke with Roger Morris. A copy of it was erected at the much-visited garden of Stowe in Buckinghamshire, and three more were erected, at Prior Park, Bath, Hagley and Amesbury. Empress Catherine the Great commissioned another copy, known as the Marble Bridge, to be set up at the landscape park of Tsarskoye Selo. Wilton House is an English country house at Wilton near Salisbury in Wiltshire. It has been the country seat of the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years. The first recorded building on the site of Wilton House was a priory founded by King Egbert circa 871.
