Courtyard W 177th Street - W 176th Street & Haven Ave - S Pinehurst Ave

New York

Scene where Carnaval Del Barrio. Vanessa, Usnavi and everybody else is dancing and singing.

Scene was shot Washington Heights is a neighborhood in the northern portion of the New York City borough of Manhattan. The area is named for Fort Washington, a fortification constructed at the highest natural point on the island of Manhattan by Continental Army troops during the American Revolutionary War. Reddit-user @jobuddy718 gave some wonderful information about the scene and the location: “The "Carnaval del Barrio" courtyard is smack-dab in the center of the residential block between West 177th & 176th Streets (to the north and south, respectively) and between Pinehurst & Haven Avenues (to the east and west) -- decidedly in Washington Heights (and yes, less than a block from J. Hood Wright Park), not in Inwood. This courtyard isn't publicly accessible; to go there in person, you'd have to be a resident of one of the surrounding buildings, or have permission from one. The uneven pavement seen in that film still (above) is where a chain-link fence divides the courtyard into two separate areas belonging to the two buildings on either side; this fence was removed for the film and replaced afterward. So in the pic, Usnavi, Vanessa and Daniela are technically/legally standing on a property address at W 177th St, while Carla and Graffiti Pete are on one at W 176th (or possibly vice versa). Cuca is "on the fence," literally.”
