Middendorf’s is close to the Manchac Swamp Bridge, a twin concrete trestle bridge which is 22.80 miles (36,69 km) long. it is one of the longest bridges in the world over water and is the longest bridge on the Interstate Highway System.  It was officially opened in 1979.
