Where was Mudbound filmed

Mudbound

Year: 2017

Genre: Drama

Country: Hungary, USA

Historical drama, directed by Dee Rees, was released in 2017. The picture tells about the complicated fate of two World War II veterans of different racial origin, facing the trials and prejudices in post-war America. Principal photography took place in New Orleans, Louisiana from May 2016. Additional scenes recreating the atmosphere of World War II were filmed in Budapest. The sprawling landscapes and verdant plains of Louisiana provided an evocative backdrop for many of the movie's episodes. The post-war scenes were filmed in the town of Lutcher, and several scenes were shot in Vacherie. The historic Felicite and St. Joseph plantations in St. James Parish were also used to capture the spirit of the time. Filming depended a lot on weather conditions: for example, for the general plans, the film team strongly wanted to use real rain. However, the crew also encountered difficulties - extreme heat, storms and even tornado warnings.

Locations

  • Farm

    In movie

Scene where Jamie McAllan is digging a grave for his father in a wide open field. His older brother Henry rushes to help. They work quickly, seeing the clouds thickening on the horizon and a storm rapidly approaching.

    Real

Scene was shot in Vacherie, Louisiana. It is a small community located in the southeastern part of the state, in St. James Parish. It is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River, about 80 kilometers west of New Orleans. The region is low-lying plains with fertile soils, and the climate is humid subtropical: hot summers, frequent rainfall and high humidity. This makes Vacherie a typical representative of rural Louisiana with dense swamps, sprawling oak and poplar trees, and picturesque plantations.

  • Mansion

    Real

Scene was shot St. James Parish, Louisiana. It is a historic and cultural site primarily associated with outstanding architecture reflecting Colonial and Southern style. The parish building is a stately structure in the classic style of the region, with a tall central entrance and columns framing the facade. It is typical of southern U.S. architecture, combining elements of Colonial Revival and Greek Revival styles.

  • Station

    In movie

Scene where Henry, accompanied by Laura, came to meet his brother Jamie at the train station. As soon as he noticed the silhouette of a loved one, he swiftly approached, embraced him and greeted him warmly. This touching scene vividly demonstrates the closeness of the brothers and the joy of their long-awaited meeting.

    Real

Scene was shot in Budapest, Hungary. This stunning European city became a filming location due to its rich history and architectural beauty. While specific filming locations in Budapest have not been cited in sources, fans of the movie can still immerse themselves in the city's atmosphere by exploring its landmarks. These include the 19th-century Chain Bridge, one of the city's most famous symbols, as well as the funicular that takes you up to Buda's Old Town.
